Dear Colleagues,
Warm greetings from the President’s desk. I am deeply honoured and thank all the members of NPSI for giving me this opportunity to serve as the President for the years 2023-2025. NPSI has established itself as the association that has brought together the neuropathology community in India in its scientific pursuit.
I took over as the President during the 6th Annual conference of the Neuropathology Society of India, (NPSICON 2023) held in February 2023, hosted by the Division of Neuropathology, Department of Pathology, Christian Medical College, Vellore. Dr Geeta Chacko, our honourable secretary was the organising chairperson. The conference saw participation from reputed national and international faculty, covering a wide range of topics in both neoplastic and non-neoplastic neuropathology and was a grand success. Two orations, Prof Ashru K Banerjee and Prof. SK Shankar oration were introduced for the first time. I am happy to announce that the website of Free Neuropathology posted the abstracts of this conference, as part of NPSI’s agreement with Free Neuropathology
The scientific and educational activities of the society have new initiatives that include;
i. The National conference of NPSI, to be held biennially. The next conference will be hosted by AIIMS, New Delhi during February 2025.
ii. The National mid-term CME of the NPSI under the aegis of the “Travelling School of Neuropathology”, NPSI, to be held on alternate years. This year, it was hosted by the Gujarat Cancer and Research Institute, Ahmedabad, on 2nd February 2024. There was exchange of knowledge between the resource faculty of NPSI and the local pathologists of the region.
iii. The NSI- NPSI collaborative educational program to be held in the month of August or September every year. The first teaching session was held in the months of August and September 2023. The neurosurgery residents and faculty found it very useful for their routine practice.
iv. The NPSI webinar to be held in the month of November every year. An excellent webinar was organized by Dr RK Saran on the 25th of November 2023 on “Pan India Potpourri of assorted cases” which was a big success.
The society has grown tremendously since the past few years and the current membership stands at 201. The constitution of the Neuropathology Society of India was revised by the Constitution Review Board and the amended Constitution is now registered and placed on the website of NPSI.I thank all the members of the review board, especially Dr. HV Srinivas, senior neurologist, for their guidance in reviewing the constitution. In order to encourage students to actively participate in the National conferences, the society has now introduced the NPSI resident’s award, for residents in Pathology, apart from the existing Subimal Roy award and NPSI young investigator award.
As we know, collaboration with other societies is important to expand our scientific knowledge. I am happy to announce that the society has deposited the annual membership fees to the International Society of Neuropathology(ISN) and continues its collaboration with ISN.
